There is some debate amongst crafters as to whether you should display your prices on all your crafts or whether you should leave it to the customer to ask, so you can 'sell' the item. Tell us what you do by participating in this pricing poll!
"I personally feel that most people are too shy to ask the price, in case they can't afford it, so you could lose a lot of potential sales.""Many people are uncomfortable with asking how much things cost, especially if they're interested in several different things. They may assume everything that's not priced is too expensive."
"I wouldn't be able to remember all of the prices! In addition to the price, my tag tells about the piece...materials, technique, gem lore, etc."
"I'm not selling at parties yet but I know for me when I don't see a price on any item I am interested in anywhere I find it to be very annoying and I am likely to pass it up instead of asking."
"I am not comfortable asking prices. I am afraid of what my face looks like when I hear the price and it is out of line. I like to see it displayed on the item."
"I currently have a system where everything is listed on a separate card - pricing individually takes too long and my efforts tend to look messy! But I think it is important to have prices up, because many people - myself included - are quite shy at stalls and in shops, and don't like to have to ask about prices."
"I've often read that if the price of an item isn't displayed, a customer may not take the time to ask. Personally, I get irritated if a price isn't listed because the salesperson may be busy with somebody else and I'm usually in a hurry. Plus, I just think it's irritating in general not to list the price."
"I know as a buyer, I refuse to buy anything that doesn't have a price on it. I just have a feeling from some "unpriced" places that they'll randomly assign prices or change them at their leisure. I completely distrust anyone who doesn't put prices on their items. Even for me, I know that even though I create every single piece and price everything myself, I could never remember all the prices I've put on things. So I don't believe these people can just randomly remember any given piece... therefore I feel they're just making up prices on the spot, and I feel cheated. I hate this practice and will never ever do it."
"I price nearly all my jewellery individually, which also allows me to record the item number for my inventory purposes. For some lower priced items, like earrings, I place them together in a basket and use one sign to show the cost."
"All my products are protected in a clear plastic bag. the bottom front has my name label, on the back I put a small price sticker. The potential client doesn't see the price unless he/she picks up the item for further examnation.too Having prices put on helps when when lots of people approach your booth."
"I feel you should display prices on all of your items I think it is the right thing to do people are more likely to buy that one they want if there is a price on it."
