Tips to Increase Home Party Sales

I’m definitely not a born sales person, so these tips to increase home party sales will help those of you who, like me, don't like to be 'pushy'.

No false modesty

When guests compliment you on your craftwork, say ‘thank you’ rather than getting embarrassed and mumbling that actually it’s not that great, anyone could do it, etc. Be proud of your work and don’t be afraid to tell guests that you aim for high quality (I’m assuming you do, otherwise you shouldn’t be selling your crafts!)

Honest benefits

Point out benefits in your items, especially if they’re applicable to that guest, e.g. ‘this type of fastening is so easy to do up’, ‘this bookmark is great to give with a book to make it a more special gift’. And if something looks really good on a guest, tell them so!

As long as you keep it honest, you’re helping your guests, so they won’t mind. And if someone is buying a necklace it’s always worth mentioning that you have a matching pair of earrings (or can make some) if they’re interested.

Increase Bookings and Sales

Touchy feely

Boost your home party sales by letting your guests touch, smell or try on your items if appropriate. To me this is one of the best things about home parties – you get to ‘try before you buy’. If I see someone looking at a piece of jewellery I always encourage them to try it on, and that almost always leads to a sale, as well as a few more sometimes when others see how nice it looks on their friend!

And along the same line, if your craft is wearable always wear some samples yourself – it always looks better on a real life model.

If Mother’s or Father’s Day is coming up, remind your guests! Point out which items would make good gifts for these occasions. Make sure you’ve got plenty of Christmas themed crafts on display from October onwards.

Good range of prices

You’ll find you do better if you have a good variety of prices, from inexpensive trinkets to your top of the range craft item. It’s always a good idea to have a few inexpensive items that people can ‘add on’ at the last minute near you. If someone is spending £9, they’ll usually be more than happy to add a £1 item on to round it up to £10. Key-rings, bookmarks or greeting cards are some ideas for these, or try fridge magnets with mini versions of your crafts. You’ll find these small amounts add up quickly to increase your home party sales.

But equally, you should always have a few of your more expensive crafts available. Sometimes a guest is looking for a very special gift for someone and wants to spend a bit on it, and you don't want to miss out on that sale!

Be friendly

This is one of the best tips for increasing your home party sales. Just as in any selling outlet, smiling and being friendly is probably the most important thing you can do. If guests like you they’ll be happy to support you, but if you’re grumpy and monosyllabic they’ll take their business elsewhere. Wouldn’t you?
